UW-Superior | Athletics & Campus Rec

there’s a couple ways for anyone who’s interested in being an athlete to be involved at uw-superior whether it’s through varsity offerings, club sports or through intramurals. It’s a great list of opportunities, it’s always diversifying yourself. Nothing ever stays the same. We’re always trying to find different ways to connect students to athletic sports, non athletics sports and just competition in general. Our varsity opportunities are really for student-athletes who want to make that commitment to really achieve that success that has most likely fueled them throughout their high school experience. I really like athletics because i get to work hard for something and I get to do it with people that I really enjoy. Having a smaller campus here definitely allows me to get to know my own teammates better and other teams so it’s like a big community. Being an athlete here you really have a sense of family support. We have 15 varsity sports here at UWS in which we compete in the Upper Midwest athletic conference, and the Wisconsin intercollegiate conference. What we find with our student-athletes, they’re very goal-oriented and a very passionate about continuing their sports at the collegiate level. typically our sports clubs allow for a little bit more flexibility on the academic requirements, the athletic requirements – but it still gives students the opportunity to compete in the sports they’re really passionate at, in a different way. You don’t necessarily have to have a background in sports. It’s not just about skill level – it’s more about the individual experience and with team building. Let’s say that you’ve never played a game in your life. The fun thing about Club is they will embrace you and they will welcome you into the group, and teach you the game. Our intramural sport offerings here at UWS is one of the best. We have a wide variety of intramurals from our flag football to even bag toss. There’s a wide variety of intramurals that are offered and i know our intramural staff is continuing to expand whatever our students want to do. It’s a great avenue to really connect with the team building experience and really great for the varsity athletes from high school varsity that don’t feel the need or desire to play varsity sports in college because they’re more focused on academics or even another social aspects as well. Anyone can play, That’s on the UWS system. It’s competitive, but it’s very fun. Everyone wants to have fun, obviously. But they also want to have fun doing it. [Music]
