The History of Renee Young – Wrestling History

Renee Young has been apart of the WWE for close to half a decade. In a world that is about trying to physically beat down another individual, Young’s charm and sense of humor stands out. but what led her to the WWE and how has her career changed since she arrived? Let’s find out! Renee Young, whose real name is Renee Paquette, was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on September 19th 1985. From an early age, Young enjoyed comedy and grew up watching shows like Saturday Night Live. The style of comedy that she gravitated towards was self-deprecation, making fun of herself. This passion moved her to set out to pursue a career as a comedic actress and she began studying at the Second City, an improvisational comedy troupe, which she credits for getting her prepared for conducting interviews and hosting live TV. She eventually moved to Los Angeles, California to continue a career in comedy. However, her first TV hosting gig took her back to Canada where she hosted a show on the channel BiteTV called Rippin’ It -N- Lippin’ It. The show focused on the punk culture typically in music. There’s not a whole lot to say but this Renee is definitely a shift from PG, WWE Renee. “We’re scoping out tons of bands and all sorts of music and awards and lots of fun (inaudible) so stick around and scope it out with me!” “Which brings me to the point that I saw up on your MySpace there pictures of you in your underwear performance. Really? I saw that (inaudible).” “Alright, I guess that’s all they have for swear words now. They (inaudible) out but whatever.” Young has said that one of the things that pulled her towards hosting was be able to do improve. Since the only things that she would need was a camera and herself. That was one of the reasons why, in 2009, she joined The Score, a Canadian television network. Within the first few months of working there Young was asked to host a wrestling show called Right After Wrestling, later renamed to Aftermath, which would immediately air following WWE Raw. The show not only got her exposed to the current WWE product but also got her the connections that would led to her WWE career, since The Score owned, and still does, the rights to broadcast WWE in Canada. Not important but it’s interesting to note that Young hosted the show alongside Kyle Edwards and Mauro Ranallo. Both of which eventually got jobs with the WWE too. Anyways, once Young’s contract with The Score ended she started looking for jobs in the United States and since she had connections with the WWE and had been working in a job that kept her in the loop with the product, it seemed like a perfect match. So ,in October of 2012, the WWE decided to hire her. But before being let on air, WWE had her see a voice coach to get rid of her accent. This is also when she got the on air last name of Young. She gave WWE a list of names to chose from and of course Young was the one they went with. Young being a reference to the Canadian singer Neil Young. After being hired by the WWE for roughly three months, we were finally introduced to Renee Young! “Ladies and gentlemen, I’m NXT’s new correspond, Renee Young. On January 23rd, 2013, Renee Young appeared as a backstage correspond on NXT. A little over a week later on February 4th, Young made her first appearance on the WWE app. But she made her, for lack of a better term, main roster debut on March 29th, 2013 on Smackdown when she interviewed Randy Orton, Sheamus and The Big Show about their team up to face The Shield at WrestleMania 29. In September of 2013, on NXT, Renee Young added to our list of duties and became a commentator for the women’s matches. She eventually did commentary for the full shows until she left NXT in January of 2015. On the topic of commentary, she became a commentator for WWE Superstars in July of 2014 and likewise left in January of 2015. 2015 was actually a pretty big year for Young, as she had her own show on the WWE Network titled Unfiltered with Renee Young, where she would interview fellow WWE colleagues in a casual, laid-back type setting. Later in June, Young became the co-host of the 6th season of Tough Enough alongside Chris Jericho. In 2016, Renee Young started more of a personality and character as she became apart of the main cast of the reality TV show Total Divas which also looked at her relationship with WWE wrestler Dean Ambrose who she had been dating since 2013 and has been married to since April of 2017. Towards the end of 2016, in December, Renee young would go beyond being an interviewer and become apart of a storyline. After the Miz successfully defended his Intercontinental championship on Smackdown Live, Young conducted an interview, talking about the Miz’s obsession with Dean Ambrose whom Miz was feuding with. Miz’s response… “Maybe we should talk about your obsession with Dean Ambrose. I mean, after all, you’re the one sleeping with him.” Renee Young ended the interview by slapping Miz and walk you off. Two weeks later, on January 3rd of 2017, The Miz’s wife, Maryse, got revenge for her husband by smacking Young backstage. Later that night however, Ambrose would face Miz for the Intercontinental Championship and was victorious. Since then, Renee Young has continued to be backstage correspondent and host for WWE. She conducts interviews on both Raw and SmackDown Live and regularly hosts the pay-per-view kickoff events as well as WWE Network shows. She’s gotten a pretty warm response from fans ever since her arrival and she’s continued to get involved in different aspects of the product. Whatever paths she takes in her career, I for one am definitely excited for where they led. So what do you think of Renee Young?
