Across the United States, thousands
of student athletes compete in college athletics.
In turn, the college athletics system helps these students pay for college.
In fact, NCAA athletic programs alone provide $2.7 billion in scholarships
to student athletes every year. Athletic scholarships are awarded
in various amounts, from small contributions to full rides
that could cover full tuition, housing, meals and even textbooks.
But before college athletes can step onto the playing field and receive
their scholarship funds, the must be declared eligible to
participate. For the NCAA and NAIA,
students must register with their respective eligibility centers and
meet several standards including academic and athletic
