Luss boxing star Hannah Rankin is ready to defend her world title belt tomorrow (Wednesday) against unbeaten Swedish fighter Patricia Berghult Hannah memorably became Scotland’s first female boxing world champion in June when she defeated American Sarah French to win the IBO Super Welter Weight title – and now she’ll defend that belt and fight for the interim WBC Super Welter Weight title against Berghult in St Julian’s, Malta And the 29-year-old, who is also a classically trained musician, is confident about her chances She said: “I think I’m going to be too big and strong for her. Personally, I feel like I’ll be too strong for her to cope with “Patricia is 13-0-0, she’s ranked sixth in the WBC rankings at welterweight. “ I’m ranked seventh in the super welter-weight division, so she’s got a higher ranking than me and she’s an undefeated fighter “But I’m looking forward to it being a great fight and I’m looking forward to taking the WBC title and defending my IBO title at the same time “It probably won’t be my toughest opponent to date, given I’ve fought Claressa Shields but she’s definitely got a formidable record and it’ll be a great fight for everyone watching “As a fighter, you always want to be put up against the best, so for me it’s a great opportunity to shine ” Hannah had been training with former opponent and double Olympic gold medallist Shields in the build-up to tomorrow’s bout and she’s hopeful that, that will give her an edge in her title defence She continued: “Training with Claressa has been amazing. We both have the same manager when we’re in America in Mark Taffet so it’s great that we can work together “We get on really well. “I’m absolutely buzzing to get out there and show what I’ve been working on – and we’re headlining the show as well, so it’s great to have a female event headlining It’s going to be really exciting. “It’s going to be my last fight of the year so I’ll turn up, show up and put on a great performance ” For more local news from West Dunbartonshire click here .
